Abstraction Meets Paisley
Inspired by the paisley pattern design, as a visionary, I’ve always been intrigued by the teardrop shape and how beautifully fits into the intricate patterns and designs of a tapestry, shawl or blanket. After looking more into the textile history of the paisley pattern, the design originated in India, in the kingdom of Kashmir. The paisley look itself was actually inspired by a cypress tree, curving towards the top. The shape itself seemed similar to a curved teardrop or kidney.
Origins may came from ancient Babylon, or possibly Persia and it’s symbol spread throughout all of Eurasia.
My abstraction style has always tried to mimic the swirls and curved teardrops of the paisley pattern.
